The arrival of spring marks the beginning of gardening season. The region of Durham offers free compost and mulch give away events. Adding compost to your garden helps improve the balance of soil nutrients. Mulch is used for moisture retention and weed suppression. The events are held in the spring and run from April 26 to May 31.

These events are self-serve and residents must bring their own shovels and containers to load their compost.
Blue bins and compost containers are also available for sale or exchange. Residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to a local food bank.
Quantities are on a first come first serve basis so be sure to get there early!
