Clarington Location

The Municipality of Clarington is on the farthest east end of the Durham Region. The Municipality contains four urban communities: Bowmanville, Courtice, New Castle, and Orono. Driving from Clarington to Toronto by car takes over 1 hour.

Clarington Transportation

Highway 401 runs through the entire municipality. Highway 407 runs through North Clarington. Highway 418 connects the two major highways, starting from the 401 and running North to the 407 between Courtice and Bowmanville.  

Durham Region Transit and GO Transit service the Municipality. The Municipality plans to extend the Lakeshore East GO Train line 20 km past Oshawa. There are two proposed stops in Clarington: Courtice and Bowmanville.

Clarington Outdoors

Many trails span across Clarington that provide you with the ability to run, walk, or cycle. The Great Lakes Waterfront trail runs through Clarington and has over 30km of scenic routes for your enjoyment.

Darlington Provincial Park is located just south of the 401, near the town of Courtice—the park borders the northern shore of Lake Ontario.

Clarington Business’

The municipality is home to two significant facilities: the Darlington Nuclear Generating System and the Durham-York Energy Centre. The Darlington nuclear-generating system is a nuclear power plant that is owned by Ontario Power Generation. It was built in the 1980s and early 1990s. The Durham-York Energy Centre functions as a facility for waste management, producing energy by the combustion of waste materials.

The municipality also hosts the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. It is one of North America’s most iconic and historic racing circuits. The track has a rich history dating back to the 1960s. The facility hosts various motorsport events, including car racing, motorcycle racing, and karting.

Clarington Education

The Municipality of Clarington has a diverse educational landscape. There are four school boards that serve its vibrant communities. Students in the area are under the guidance of:

Durham College and Ontario Tech University are the post-secondary institutions in the vicinity. They are within a 20-minute drive from the municipality.

Clarington Real Estate

The real estate landscape in the Municipality is dynamic and diverse, offering a mix of residential, commercial and rural properties.

The municipality offers a variety of housing types, including detached homes, townhouses, condominiums and apartments. The municipality has both established neighbourhoods and newer developments.
